the bathroom: before and afters

We are completely in love with our bathroom since it made the transformation from faux marble funkiness to modern hotel bliss. I'll let the photos do the talking.

bathroom crashers

This weekend, our life has felt like an episode of bathroom crashers. But that's okay, because we were able to get a ton of bathroom goodness finished (electrical, radiant installation, the tiling and the painting). Tomorrow, we'll install our vanity, sink top, toilet and finish up the electrical installation. Then we'll just need to get the rest of the trimmings in order. Oh, and a door. Kinda a big one. But I'm too excited about all that basalt tile and the museum white walls to care.

the radiant heating

We're just plugging away at putting the bathroom back together. The sheetrock was completed this morning. So we layed the radiant system, covered it in thinset and will start to tile once that's dry.

the fixings

I've definitely discovered what I like to do when it comes to home renovations, and what I'm not so keen on. I love demoing things. I guess that means I'm the girl that likes to break stuff. But beyond that, I'm also the girl that loves a clean blank slate (which is why I've gone from really not liking Mondays to really loving them over the past few months). I'm not so keen on painting molding and really mundane projects like chipping away paint and sanding. But the end result ties everything together in such a way that maybe I will learn to love those tedious little projects. A few weeks ago we had a marathon day of painting the molding on the first floor and we even hung doors that we sanded down, repainted and freshened up with some new hardware.

got trash? Bagster to the rescue

Sadly, I wasn't able to snap pics of our trash from the bathroom reno. Or the bagster people picking up our trash. Really sad about this. But if you have a little bit of trash that can't quite fit one of those giant dumpster bins (which we've already had 2 of), you must use Bagster by Waste Management!

You buy a heavy duty bagster bag (it comes flat in a teeny tiny bag) from your local home improvement store (ours came from The Home Depot). Place it in your driveway or somewhere street accessible. Fill it with your trash. Then schedule your appointment and the bagster man comes out and used this crane like controller to pick up your bag and dump it in their bin. It was like a giant real life crane game. You know. That one where you try to get a stuffed animal from the bin but never seem to win.

We fit a couple interior doors, our old front door, all the flooring and a few walls worth of debri from the bathroom and part of the pedestal sink in our bagster.

there's no turning back

It's been a while since we posted and even longer since we demoed walls. That all changed yesterday. The same day we decided to call the downstairs complete after hanging the last door that needed to be hung, we started tearing apart the upstairs full bathroom. You probably remember we had to do an emergency shower remodel a while back. Which means we don't have to touch the shower (thankfully). But the rest of the bathroom has been torn apart to make way for a new heavy duty fan, overhead LED lighting, new electrical outlets, radiant floor heating and we even moved the plumbing to the right a little bit.

We're spending the next few days tackling all that has to be done behind the walls. Then it will be time to sheetrock and put everything back together. What's on the list for putting this baby back together, you ask? Basalt tile floors. A new vanity with a Caesarstone counter top. Our favorite Kohler fixtures. Plus all the aforementioned stuff going on under the flooring and in the walls. Today, I am researching fun stuff like nice hooks to hang towels on and TP holders. While C is in the attic putting in the new fan system and lighting. I do feel guilty, but I'm on-call playing the role of sous-construction worker just waiting for demands from the attic.
